Todd W. Van Ryn

Todd William Van Ryn of Wausau, WI, joined our Savior in Heaven unexpectedly, yet spiritually prepared on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the age of 63. Todd was born on July 18, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to William and Fayette Van Ryn. He graduated in 1978 from Jupiter High School in Jupiter, FL. After high school he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and later earned his Master’s Degree from Concordia University (WI).

On May 15, 1982, he married the love of his life, Sherry Knautz. God stretched and grew their faith as they served the Lord together and raised their 5 children in many locations throughout the US and Puerto Rico.  Todd always desired to live his life in a way that pointed others to Christ and made it a point to teach his children by example, what it meant to trust the Lord and follow His leading.

Todd spent the first half of his working career at Bestfoods for 17 years, holding various management positions at plants around the country.  In March of 2000, he and Sherry opened the first of several 5 Loaves & 2 Fish Christian Bookstores in Wausau, WI.  He involved his children in this ministry over a period of 17 years, adopting a family motto of being “addicted to the service of the saints.”  Through the bookstore ministry, Todd sought to equip people with resources and tools that would draw them into a deeper and more authentic relationship with Jesus.

Later in his life, Todd was used by God as a pastor, teacher, mentor, and chaplain in the Central Wisconsin area, most recently at Goodrich Community Church.  His passion for reading and studying his Bible shone through as he sought to rightly teach God’s Word and live out biblical truths in his daily life.  He loved teaching and preaching as he thoroughly enjoyed putting together messages that he felt God divinely gave him each week to share with those he shepherded.  It gave him great joy to share testimonies each week of how God was living and active in his life.  Most recently, he was an integral part of the ministry at Bridge Street Mission, working with others to restore hearts and transform lives for Christ.

Todd enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others, singing, traveling, and a number of unique hobbies. What he enjoyed most however, was serving his Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, Todd was involved with Christian ministries such as the Winter Youth Retreat, Young Life, Good Tidings Publishers, Districts, and others, while also directing Bible camps, attending conferences, and leading missions trips.   He especially loved speaking the Spanish language and worked closely with a number of Spanish ministries and pastored several Spanish-speaking churches.

We are confident he is now in the glory of God, not because of a life well lived (though it was) but because he put his faith in the Son of God who took away his sins.

Todd is preceded in death by his mother, Fayette Van Ryn. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sherry; children, Brittany (Dylan) Lauber, Cody (Rachel) Van Ryn, Dilan (Laura) Van Ryn, Austin (Rebecca) Van Ryn, Carley Van Ryn; grandchildren Jack, Reese, August, Brenna, Henry, Olivia, Ian, Snow, Frederick; siblings David Van Ryn, Nathan (Susan) Van Ryn, and Luke Van Ryn; father William Van Ryn.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27th at Bible Truth Chapel (1600 N 1st Ave in Wausau) from 9am to 11am.  A memorial service will follow at 11AM and there will be an opportunity afterwards for friends and family to share memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Todd’s name may be made to Riverside Bible Camp in Amherst, WI (https://www.riversidebiblecamp.org/donate).

Fredrich J. Leonard

Fredrich John Leonard, 61, of Antigo, passed away at home with family by his side on April 20th, 2024.

He was born August 25th, 1962, in Wausau, to the late Marvin Leonard Sr. and the late Maryann (Weso Leonard) Shegonee.

“Fast Freddy” was a FORD fanatic and a mechanic at heart. You could always find him in his garage working on everything from electronics to small engines to basically everybody’s vehicle. One of his fondest memories was being a street stock mechanic, traveling to tracks in Antigo, Three Lakes, and Eagle River. Also, he lived to deer hunt. He looked forward to it every year and it wasn’t often that he didn’t get that buck. Speaking of buck, he was always wheeling and dealing, hitting up the casinos, and of course he could not pass up those Goodwill finds.

Freddy was quite the talker, teaser, and B.S.er. As much as he loved to push people’s buttons he loved all his friends just as much. He was extremely grateful for his closest friends Lenny, Alvin Jr, Johnny Knockers, Lee Christjohn, Charles, and as much as he won’t admit, his former wife, Roxanne.

Survivors include: the mother of his children Sonja; two daughters: Nichole and Erlene; his sons: Cash and Roman; his grandchildren: Piersyn, Jaylen, Aniya and Lynken; his siblings: Faith (Ben), Nick, Anna, Marvin (MJ), Tom (Tina), Rose (Evan), half siblings: Joe (Sara) and Patricia, among cousins and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Bill , stepmother Linda, brother Gerald, nephew Kenneth, and nieces Monica and Nicole.

A dinner will be on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 5:30 PM, at the Fredrich Leonard residence (1309 10th Ave, Antigo, WI), a devotional service will follow. A Celebration of Life with family, friends and food will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the Fredrich Leonard Residence, (1309 10th Ave, Antigo, WI).

Ryan T. Drury

Ryan Taylor Drury, 38, of Minneapolis, died unexpectedly at home April 3 with his loving wife Carolyn at his side. Born in The Woodlands, TX on March 19, 1986, to Kathy and Rick Drury, Ryan grew up alongside his older brother and best friend Sean. While living in Texas, Ryan spent countless hours in the woods playing, building forts, and catching all types of critters with Sean and the large group of boys who lived in the neighborhood.

Ryan and his family moved to Wausau, WI in 1998, where his love for the outdoors grew into passions for snowboarding and watersports. Moving across the country to start middle school could have been challenging, but Ryan quickly developed close-knit relationships with a group of like-minded friends who found adventure everywhere they went.

Ryan graduated from Wausau West High School in 2004. In high school, Ryan pursued a budding interest in music, learning to play both the trombone and bass guitar. He played on the high school golf team and, from the time he was old enough to work, had a part-time job. Ryan diligently saved the money he earned to purchase his first car when he was 16, a red 1974 MG Midget.

After high school Ryan attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering after completing two co-ops with Braun Intertec and a semester at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. At the U of M Ryan found another group of loyal friends who remain steadfast friends to this day. Upon graduation Ryan accepted a position with Braun Intertec where he eventually specialized in deep foundations. Ryan worked at Braun for 17 years before recently starting a new job with Terracon Consultants.

Most importantly, it was during college that Ryan met Carolyn, and they have been inseparable ever since. After dating for many years, Ryan and Carolyn married on September 25, 2021. They shared a love for good friends, rescue dogs and cats, and music of all varieties. Ryan and Carolyn followed their shared love of music to concerts and festivals across the country. Ryan would regale his family with stories of memorable shows he experienced with Carolyn. Sometimes the stories included descriptions of sweltering heat, rain, or long road trips, but always the stories conveyed a love for experiencing live music with Carolyn and their friends.

Ryan was known by all for his kind and gentle soul, his sense of humor, and his ability to connect with everyone he met. Friends and family alike took pleasure in listening to Ryan describe and share his interests and hobbies. Ryan had a special talent for growing superhot peppers. Combining his engineering brain with his green thumb, Ryan obtained high yields from his pepper plants and meticulously tracked his harvests on a spreadsheet. He then turned the peppers into delicious and unique hot sauces for his friends and family. He also loved smoking meats and other treats, and, since Carolyn is vegetarian, Ryan’s meat-smoking prowess was especially enjoyed by his friends. Every family gathering involved barbecue, hot sauce, and spirited debates on many topics. Ryan’s perspective and thoughtful points on life will be greatly missed at future family gatherings.

Ryan will be deeply missed by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Rick and Kathy Drury of Wausau WI; brother, Sean (Kate) Drury of Waupaca WI; step-grandmother, Marie Drury of Austin TX; and close family members, Beth (Andy) Lain of Little Rock AR, Liam (Jill Giordano) Drury of Geyserville CA, Dan (Andrea) O’Leary of Lexington KY, Kyle Stephens (Diane Garcia) of Los Angeles CA, Zachary (Hannah) Lain of Alamogordo NM, Taylor (Tori) Lain of Ward AR, and Stella Drury of Geyserville CA, and by his in-laws, Tom and Karen Hoff, who loved him as their own. To his nephew and niece, Leo and Bonnie Drury, “Uncle Ryan!” was always the most fun adult in the room, and they adored him as much as he loved them. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Bonnie Drury of Austin TX, and Ivan “Jay” and Jane O’Leary of Lexington KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Animal Humane Society in Hennepin County MN.
