Tawau: Kalabakan MP Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) to probe the seafood transaction activity going on at Tawau Airport. He said he had information that seafood are brought in from a neighbouring country to be exported from the state and this needs to be investigated on whether there are violation of laws made if the activities are carried out arbitrarily.

"If it is true that the seafood is brought in from the neighbouring country, we want to know whether it has approval from the authorities or was smuggled.

"If it was smuggled, we want to know how it could happen when our waters are strictly controlled by authorities and whether are there any corruption elements involved?" he said in a statement.

He was informed that delivery of seafood through Tawau Airport was prohibited but was still being carried out.

Last week, Ghapur issued that there are source of the stench coming from the Tawau Airport was believed to be seafood delivery activity.

It is understood that seafood outlet operators in the peninsula and elsewhere are getting their source now from Sabah, including Tawau. This was facilitated by the introduction of direct air links between the peninsula and the east coast towns like Tawau and Sandakan. - Lagatah Toyos
