NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) - If you like to eat fish, you may be out of luck right now. Local restaurant owners and grocery stores in the Tri-State are feeling the effects of hurricanes across the gulf.

Schnucks in Newburgh is dealing with a shortage of some seafood items because of these storms.

They are specifically out of salmon and tilapia. There's a sign up in the seafood section at Schnucks that says the shortage is due to Hurricane Irma.

We spoke to  Schnucks corporate and we were told a lot of their seafood supply makes its way to the Tri-State from the Miami airport which was closed for a few days when Hurricane Irma came through.

We've learned through industry trade websites that Miami is a major hub for shipping fresh seafood. So when the airport closed, it caused a ripple-effect delay in seafood shipments.

Schnucks said that's the reason you see those signs in the seafood display case.

Local restaurants are also seeing the effects of hurricane season.
